Renovating the basement is an idea people often consider for increasing the living space in their home. But since the basement is also the dampest part of the house and the most difficult to ventilate, a few precautions are in order before undertaking this kind of project. Are there cracks in the foundation, signs of humidity or a musty smell? These are clues that indicate problems you will need to remedy to prevent water infiltration, the proliferation of mould and the heartbreak of having to tear it down and start all over again.
