Install a high-efficiency air-conditioning system.

Crop projet-11

During summer heat waves, high humidity and airborne particles lower the quality of the air in cities. It is recommended that homes be cooled and ventilated to reduce the health impacts, especially for children, the elderly and people with respiratory illnesses. Installing a high-efficiency air-conditioner is a significant way to save energy and reduce the greenhouse gases produced by non-renewable energy.

Our recommendations :

  1. To lower the temperature inside the home, it’s important to use a high-efficiency air-conditioner in order to break the vicious cycle of GHG emissions combined with thermal islands. Your best bet is to choose an ENERGY STAR® model, which guarantees that your appliance is quieter and consumes less energy than a conventional model. When installed, make sure that the openings around window units are well sealed and that wall units are installed according to the manufacturer’s directions.
  2. You can reduce your need for air-conditioning by taking a number of steps: sunshades, blinds or shutters on south-facing windows, effective ceiling fans, light-coloured siding and roof tiles, and greenery around the house. The most energy-effective home cooling method is to prevent the need for air-conditioning.
